Live in the Vines: August Edition!
Welcome to the latest edition of Live in the Vines! Today we venture into the vineyard and see what is new for August.
It has been an interesting month for Pinot Noir as we have seen them go through the process of Vraison, which is a French term for the change in color they experience as they mature on the vine. We have seen them go from green to a blue / black hue.
Did you know that Pinot Noir is often called the Heart Break grape? It can be quite difficult to cultivate and transform into wine but it produces the finest wines and that is why we keep falling in love with this varietal. It usually requires special growing conditions, including warm days and cool evenings. Warm temperatures can bring out a broad range of flavors, bouquets, textures and finishes. Luckily we have been seeing a lot of heat during the day which helps with ripening of the fruit. We love our Pinot Noir berries so much we give them a little extra care and protect it with netting. The netting is used to protect from Birds and other creatures.
We are very fortunate to get an upgrade on our tractor. The landini is currently out of commission but we brought in a Deer to handle the work! We attached a sprayer to the Deer and gave the vines a nice spa day!
