2013 was a challenging growing year for grapes here in Essex County. It was a very wet spring and summer. Then in mid-August the sun started shining down on our beloved grapes and the long autumn nights helped them develop beautiful flavours and phenolics. As farmers, we always say that 85% of our crop is weather derived and as winemakers we know that 90% of our work is done in the vineyard. The medals from the International Finger Lakes Competition for our 2013 Sauvignon blanc and 2013 Gewurztraminer are very rewarding with the challenges mother nature gave us. Kudos to our viticultural team and wine maker for a job well done!
