Description
Merlot is not only a medium bright dark shade of red it is an affectionate French word for a blackbird. It’s said that Merlot got it’s name because blackbirds were seen in the vineyards eating those luscious grapes.
These grapes were grown on hte Bennett vieneyard manged by North 42 and yes the birds love them. So, perhaps the story is true.
Our 2021 Merlot is typical of a cool climate style and reminiscent of old world wines. Barrel aged it reveals supple tannins among aromas and flavours of plum, black cherry and blackberries with a note of herbals. The acidity and time embraced by oak has left this wine with a firm backbone and a well rounded style. The key is pairing this wine with food is to match the wine’s weight and flavor intensity with the weight and flavor intensity of the dish. A week night pasta, hearty bean dish or lamb should do the trick.
This wine can be enjoyed now through 2027.
